London Greek Radio

As one of the UK's largest community radio stations LGR can be found broadcasting in the London area on 103.3FM and to the world via the internet. It provides a valuable cultural link for the Greek and Greek Cypriot community with music, news from Greece, Cyprus and the UK, discussion programmes and community information to name but a few.

In 1997 Soundcheck was commissioned by LGR to supply an all-round maintenence service to its studios in Haringey. This included regular maintenance visits, equipment repairs and upgrades as well as technical support for outside broadcasts.

Flood!

The most notable of call-outs was at 11:45pm on 30th July 2002. The unprecedented rainfall in the area had caused the building, studios and surrounding areas to flood and LGR had to cease transmission. Meanwhile Soundcheck set up a temporary studio, re-established power and audio links and the station was back on air by 11am the following morning.

New Studios

In 2003 LGR acquired a new premises in Finchley and the task to dismantle and re-build the studios and racks room was put to Soundcheck. The studios were designed and built from scratch since we had an empty building to start with. LGR used this opportunity to invest in new equipment providing more studio facilities and better quality transmission. With constant dialogue with Chris Harmandas, Sales Director and Project Manager, and programme makers, the right equipment was chosen, installed and commissioned. As with nearly all new building projects a few delays ensued but the transfer date remained unchanged: 14th August 2003. Despite our engineers soldering the final connections under the mixing desk whilst the presenter cued up the first CD, the switch-over went without a hitch and programmes continued as usual.
